Welcome to The Daily Reset. A chill article series where I try and bring y’all the biggest headlines for the day, at the end of the day, so you can wind down and enjoy a relaxing night while keeping up-to-date on what’s going on in the games industry.

Okay.

Overwatch League and Call of Duty League will stream exclusively on YouTube, instead of Twitch

Activision Blizzard has decided to opt out of updating their deal with Twitch in favor of signing an exclusive deal with Google. This means the third season of the Overwatch League, the inaugural season of the Call of Duty League, and any official Hearthstone tournaments moving forward will all be streaming exclusively on YouTube.

Apart from being the only place to watch some of the most popular Esports events, Google will also be providing the infrastructure behind the scenes. Polygon news editor Michael McWhertor writes:

“As part of the deal, Activision Blizzard’s online games will also employ Google Cloud to ‘deliver superior, low-latency player experiences,’ according to a joint news release from the companies. That includes server infrastructure for hosting games.

The Call of Duty League Launch Weekend is currently streaming on YouTube, and Overwatch League’s season begins early next month. This will provide a good opportunity for Google show off what their technology can really do. Google Stadia needs a win. Yeah, that’s right. I haven’t forgotten about it.

Frost Fatales, the all-women speedrunning event, is happening February 23rd

Awesome Games Done Quick happened earlier this month, and raised a staggering $3.13 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. For anyone still browsing Twitch and Youtube, looking for something to scratch that speedrunning itch, the GDQ-affiliated Frost Fatales will be live from Frebruary 23rd through the 29th. The event will showcase the amazing skills of women within the speedrunning community, live on GDQ’s Twitch channel.

“Not only does Frost Fatales hope to promote women in speedrunning, but the event’s also for a good cause: with all proceeds going to The Malala Fund. Founded by Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai, the charity aims to ‘break down the barriers preventing more than 130m girls around the world from going to school’,” (Kent, 2020).

Official Sonic the Hedgehog movie theme drops.

The official Sonic the Hedgehog movie theme was revealed sometime yesterday. A music video posted to Wiz Kalifa’s YouTube’s channel has Wiz, Lil Yachty, Ty Dolla $ign, and Sueco the Child (?), with Wiz holding the chorus down.

The song isn’t great, and the Sueco choice is questionable, but the video is dope and I always love hip hop intersecting with nerd culture.

*googles Sueco the Child*

That’s it. Catch you tomorrow, peace.
